Pataki Provides Fresh Climate Talking Points for McCain

Three years ago, who would have ever predicted that George Pataki would have climate talking points for presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain? Nobody, not even Nostradamus.
But the very next day after McCain unveiled his drill-drill-drill energy policy in Houston and called for the lifting of the longstanding ban on drilling for oil in American coastal waters, Pataki spoke in New York at a Green Business Summit sponsored by the law firm where he now works, Chadbourne and Parke.
George, you coulda been a contender. Here are some of his words -- read 'em and weep.
When I think about climate change and green business opportunities, I have no doubt that energy and transportation are going to be transformed in the next 10 years in ways that we can only dream of today.
When you think about how we communicated 10 or 20 years ago, and how we communicate today, that's exactly what's going to happen to energy and transportation. We are seeing a paradigm shift in energy and transportation in our country.
I put in place and took the lead on the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) in the northeast, now joined by 10 states, that begins not in 2050 but on January 1st, 2009, and will begin pricing and capping CO2 emissions from power generators in those 10 states. It's happening.
It's happening with RGGI in the northeast.....it's happening out west.....it's happening in the midwest.....and it's happening in Florida, where the governor signed an executive order mandating caps on greenhouse gases.
Florida. Did you say Florida?.....but Florida Governor Charlie Crist ....yesterday .....also ....came out in support of ....offshore drilling ...and he's a front-runner for the second slot .....on the Republican ticket......sigh.
George, you got your work cut out for you in your party. Don't give up your day job.
