Wind Power Giant Edges Out Halliburton in Energy Sector Rankings

This, from the WSJ Energy Roundup, is an exceptional first: Iberdrola Renovables, the renewable energy arm of the Spanish energy giant Iberdrola, has landed a coveted spot on the PFC Energy 50's top rankings of the world’s largest oil and gas firms.

That translates to an enormous coup for renewables in 2007.

The PFC list is seen as an authoritative ranking of the top private energy industry companies by market capitalization. And this year marks the first time a clean energy company has made the cut, ever.

Not only that, at #36, Iberdrola Renovables has edged out Halliburton for a higher ranking. Not bad for a first-timer. The oil behemoth fell from the #29 spot in '06 to #37 in '07. (For what it's worth, BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, and Shell also took a hit in the rankings this year.)

But not Iberdrola Renovables. It soared from non-existence to energy big Whig on the back of $35 billion of market capitalization it has accrued from wind power. The company now boasts a gigantic portfolio of wind farms in Europe and the US.

The best part: PFC has exposed the viability of clean energy as a competitive global power source for the whole world to see.

Wind puts the spin on the real answers!!

Lets be real people in case you are not in the renewable industry wind is blowing away the real solutions for a lot of progress in this country because it is the same as what we have been dealing with for the last 100 years.
Wind is solar, true, so then why is solar so far behind and almost nonexsistant in the USA manufacturing sector??
Wind still buys and pays the powerline whores across the country so of course it has been let into the big boys club. Hell it is what created Enron in the first place!
The other bastard sun of Solar (PV and Thermal) is being blown away by this monster industry. I know that statement alone will piss off all the USgreenie-weenies and keep us from investing in our own personal footprint unlike what the rest of the planet does daily. Ever wonder why all the other countries in the world are competing with the wind industry? Ever wonder why they are install so much more than we do? Because their tax structure cross supports all Solar!..and they have more balls/family than american(t)s, so they have more to care about.
American wind is full of hot air and corporate fluff. Wind is blowing american(t)s in jus the way that they love it,...simple to claim and clueless as to who gets the dough.
If we american(t)s were really into wind we would have started producing the majority of the designs we gave away years ago in our own factorys thus creating a non-oil dependant economy,... not to mention reducing the footprint these things have.
I love the concept. Wind is simple, but the delivery and the payoffs destroy the progress of this nation and the planet because this country has fixed all the wind farms to be corporate only. When is the last time you heard of a town investing in thier own farm??....Not in the USland
Go buy some feel good kWh, I mean putting your money into a power system on your roof would only be.........? Ugly and too exspensive right? Thats why so many electric bills have gone down since those wind machines have been put in place!
You are staring at the next phone company and thinking WOW! I love it! Sign me up for a 5 year contract. Hell I will even pay more for the same electricity!!! Why should I invest in my future?? I cant think past my paycheck. Wake up simpletons. WIND IS CORPORATE GREEN!!!!
